A delivery system is the path from an idea to a useful change in production. Tools help, but unclear ownership and repeated manual work can still make that path slow.
Observe a real change
Follow a representative feature through design, development, review, testing, release, and support. Notice queues and rework. Ask the people doing the work where they need help, instead of starting with a platform shopping list.
Offer a path people choose to use
Begin with one common service pattern and make it easy to create, test, deploy, and observe. Treat the internal platform as a product: gather feedback, document the escape hatches, and measure whether it helps.
Use balanced measures
Review delivery speed alongside stability and the user experience. A deployment count alone can encourage activity without value. Use measures for learning and system improvement rather than ranking individuals.
Make AI part of the delivery system
AI-assisted coding still needs clear requirements, review, testing, and operational ownership. DORA’s 2025 research describes AI as amplifying existing organizational strengths and weaknesses. Improving the surrounding system remains essential.
